Our People

We’ve hand-picked a team of like-minded people who share our passion for good things to eat and drink and taking good care of our guests.

Charlie Seccombe

Charlie Seccombe is our manager and keeps our pub running smoothly. He grew up being surrounded by good food; not only is his mum an awesome cook who used to do it for a living, his family also ran a deli serving up fantastic food for all occasions. So it was perhaps inevitable that he ended up behind the bar of a city pub after getting a degree in hospitality from Oxford Brookes University, and he’s never looked back. Four great years working with Peach pubs and the highlight of running one of their busiest The Almanack in Kenilworth saw him doing what he loves most. When the chance came to work in a smaller business and be even more hands on, he jumped at it and threw himself into making this pub the one it is today. Now the place is buzzing and everyone’s got a smile on their face, especially Charlie.

David Webb

David Webb has been running our kitchen here for the past two and a half years. Like many chefs, he started out at the kitchen sink, washing up at his local The Bluebell Inn at Hempstead in between cooking meals for the family. Although he qualified as a photographer at art college he soon realised that cooking was his creative outlet and came home to work in The Railway here in town where he took easily to running the kitchen. A familiar face in Saffron Walden where he grew up, he also did stints at Dish and The Old English Gentleman before moving to The Linden House Hotel & Restaurant in Stansted, helping them achieve an AA Five Star rating within months of opening. Now, his own brand of quiet creativity in the kitchen, serving up food that’s consistently good, has earned his cooking a great reputation.

Leanne Langman

Leanne Langman is one of the owners of the pub and says that hospitality is in her blood. She’s been in the industry for as long as she can remember and lots of her family work in this great business too. Before coming to Saffron Walden, she worked for the award-winning Peach pub company, running The Swan at Salford which won more than its fair share of awards while she was there. She also worked in some cracking pubs in the West Country, managing the restaurant at The Hope & Anchor in Hope Cove, Devon when she was just 17. Enjoying good food and wine with good company gathered around the table is Leanne’s idea of heaven, something she’s worked hard to bring to her own place here.
